Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim dominated the headlines on day two of the first Test against New Zealand at Wellington on Friday. The duo added a record 359 runs for the fifth wicket. Here’s a look at the records created during the day’s play.

Shakib’s 217 is now the highest individual score by a player from Bangladesh. He made 217 from 276 balls with 31 fours before being bowled by Neil Wagner. He became the third batsman from Bangladesh to hit a double hundred in Tests. Before that, Tamim Iqbal made 206 against Pakistan in 2015 while Rahim hit 200 against Sri Lanka in 2013.

The 359-run stand is now the highest ever for Bangladesh in Test matches. The previous best was 312 by Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal for the opening wicket against Pakistan in Khulna.

This stand is now the highest-ever partnership for a visiting team in New Zealand. The earlier best was 350 added by Pakistan's Asif Iqbal and Mushtaq Mohammad, back in 1973.

The 359-run stand is now the third highest partnership in New Zealand in Tests. In addition, this is the highest fifth-wicket stand against New Zealand in Tests. The previous best was 281 by Asif Iqbal and Javed Miandad, at Lahore in 1976.

Shakib became the fourth player in Test history to have held the record for the highest score and the best bowling figures in an innings in Tests for a respective country. While his 217 is now the highest Test score for Bangladesh, he earlier claimed 7 for 36, also against New Zealand, which was then the best bowling figures by a Bangladesh bowler in Tests. The record was later bettered by Taijul Islam, who picked up 8 for 39 against Zimbabwe. New Zealand's Roger Blunt and India's Amar Singh and Vinoo Mankad are the others to have achieved this unique record.

Shakib has a very good record against New Zealand in Tests. He has scored 450 runs from five innings in New Zealand with two hundreds at an average of 112.5.

During the course of his 217, Shakib became the third batsman from Bangladesh to cross 3,000 Test runs. He did so in his 45th Test. Before him, Tamim Iqbal and Habibul Bashar had reached the landmark.

Shakib also has 150 plus Test wickets to his name. He is now among the 14 cricketers to have scored over 3,000 runs and taken more than 150 wickets in Tests.

Bangladesh’s number five and number six scored over 150 in the match. This is only the fifth time that such an occurrence has taken place in Tests.

Four of Bangladesh’s top six scored over fifty in the first innings at Wellington. This has never happened before in their Test history. Apart from Shakib and Rahim’s big knocks Iqbal and Mominul Haque also hit half centuries.

Tim Southee and BJ Watling have been involved in a total of 44 dismissals. This is a new record for New Zealand beating the 43 by Richard Hadlee and Ian Smith in 1990.
