Bangladesh created history on Sunday, by registering their first Test win against a proper Test playing nation, winning the Mirpur Test by 108 runs. The hosts had come close in the first Test as well, but fell just before the finish mark. Opener Tamim Iqbal had said that then Bangladesh must stop being satisfied with competing, which he felt was too little. Just a few days later, the Bangladeshis managed to pull off one of greatest upsets in Test history. Here’s a look at the men responsible for Bangladesh’s biggest moment in Tests thus far.

Mehedi Hasan Miraz

Mehedi Hasan Miraz: Undoubtedly the find of the series for Bangladesh. Just a game after making a memorable debut, Miraz stood up once again, and this time delivered Bangladesh a much-needed win with 12 wickets in the Test. He was all over the England batsmen in the first innings, and his 6 for 82 was primarily responsible for the English folding up for 244. In the second innings as well, it was he who turned the match after England looked in a decent position to win. Openers Alastair Cook and Ben Duckett had added 100 in chase of 173. However, Miraz dismissed both of them in their 50s, and ran through the middle order as well, as England crumbled to 164 all out, and Bangladesh created history.

Tamim Iqbal: Although Bangladesh crumbled to 220 all-out in their first innings, Tamim lived up to what he promised, that of delivering more. His 104 from 147 balls was a fluent effort, a knock which featured 12 fours. He made 40 in the second innings, a significant knock in a low-scoring game. Even as Miraz was the standout performer, Tamim’s effort was also a noteworthy one. But for him, Bangladesh could have been in greater trouble.

Shakib Al Hasan: The Bangladesh all-rounder stood up when it mattered. While Miraz claimed six wickets in the second innings, Shakib picked up the remaining four scalps. Shakib’s wickets on the last day included two of the big ones, that of Joe Root and Ben Stokes. In addition, he also chipped in with a battling 41 in the second innings. In a match where every run was important, Shakib’s contribution was worthy too.

Imrul Kayes: The Bangladesh opener top scored with 78 in the team’s second innings. After the bowlers did their job of bringing Bangladesh back in the game, Kayes furthered the advantage with his knock. His 78 from 120 balls was a brisk effort, featuring nine fours. His innings gave Bangladesh the confidence that they could overcome the English bowling challenge, and the hosts held the upper hand from that point.
